How to Sell Multiple Auction Packages if You’re Hosting a Silent Auction

So you’re running the silent auction for the annual fundraising event at a local nonprofit, like a humane society. Let’s say that one of the Philantopia travel packages is the Napa Valley Wine Tour Package in Calistoga   a very popular choice!

At the end of the night, just after the silent auction has closed, take a look at the top four names who bid for the package. Go up to those four people individually and say, “You bid x amount on the Napa Valley Wine Tour Package. We can sell it to you for that amount.”

Of course, they will say yes! It’s a win for the donor (they get to go to Napa!) and it’s a win for the nonprofit (you’ve just sold another travel package!) If you do that with your top four bidders, you’ve just quadrupled your profits.

What if your bidders left before you could offer them the package? No sweat — the next day, have one of your volunteers call them up and offer to sell them the package at the price they bid. You could call every person who bid on the Napa trip, sell a lot more, and make a lot more!

How to Sell Multiple Auction Packages if You’re Hosting a Live Auction

We just can’t say enough about the value of a professional auctioneer. Live auctioneers are invaluable to fundraising: they are experts at building excitement and creating a sense of urgency in the room, which will ultimately create a more successful auction. That’s what you need to get the money — and the fun — flowing.

Imagine this: 800 people, a big ballroom, women in diamonds and men in tails, and everyone’s intention is to raise money for an important cause.

During the auction, the auctioneer will do what they do best: whip up a bidding war between two or more bidders for your travel package. Let’s say it’s the Romantic Bali Travel Package When things start slowing down, the auctioneer will point to the first bidder and say, “Do you want the Bali Travel Package?” And they’ll say, “YES!” Then the auctioneer will point to the second bidder and say, “Do you want the Bali Travel Package?” And they’ll say, “YES!”

Then the auctioneer will say, “SOLD! To both of you for the price of x dollars!”

Now you’ve just doubled the money raised from that travel package. In one recent event, the auctioneer sold ten packages! That’s the magic of a good auctioneer.
